Customer Review

on 8 August 2011
A very good substitute for those (including me) who missed most of the award winning Radio 4 series. The present craze of viewing British history as just a small insignificant part of European history finds no place here. (One very small quibble, significant events might have been put as a sub heading for the periods covered by each chapter.) Definitely a book for anyone who thinks history is boring. It's an enlightening study of human behaviour and power shifts over the centuries from the Romans in 55BC right up till Queen Victoria's death in 1901. I've never read a factual book (let alone a history book) when I've not needed to break off and read something else. I think it's brilliant - and also a lot cheaper than the CDs of the whole series.
