tea with Bea ***** Definately Dissapointing,
This review is from: Tea with Bea: Recipes from Bea's of Bloomsbury (Hardcover)
I am so disappointed in this book, it looks amazing, the write up fantastic, But the recipe's within are incorrect. I made the Guinness and ginger cup cakes, instructions were poor. example " fill each cupcake four fifths full as they do not rise much, and it makes 24!! Mine rise above level and only filled 18... also the cream cheese topping, was like buttermilk, I literally had to use double the amount of Icing sugar to reach the consistency shown on the pictured cup cakes!!!!
This book will not be used in my kitchen again, first book I have ever been this dissapointed that I felt it necessary to write a review. I feel it very unfair to even pass this on to the charity shop for someone else to be dissapointed in what they may think a good buy from the charity shop. Recycled it WILL HELP TO SAVE THE PLANET!!!! thats about all its good for.....

Thank you I will be in touch if it goes wrong again!! The funniest thing is my Daughter doesn't cook at all, but just loves being chief taster!

So glad I saw this review, I bought this book after visiting the café and did enjoy what I had, chocolate Guinness cake. Also the nicest cup of tea out I've ever had! However the book left me slightly disappointed as the recipe had been adapted for the book, to include ginger and other spices. Well, I managed to fill my cupcakes 4/5ths full but only 12 were filled for me, supposedly the recipe does not rise much, but the buns rose up crazily to twice their size, looked a bit silly, but the rise was nice, didn't flood all over the place at least, the cream cheese topping was exactly as you say, like watery buttermilk, added a bit more icing and a bit more till I got something reasonable and it was still a bit too slack.
