Customer Review

on 19 February 2012
I'm sorry Braun, I really don't know what you're playing at. Your high-end toothbrushes used to be great value. Now however you have periodic half-price sales you seem to have halved the price of the components you use to cover your costs as well.

Essentially I replaced a Triumph 5000 for another 5000. One was bought two years ago and although they both have comparable cleaning ability (which is good), the rest of the design is a huge step back.

The Bad:
- chargers are not interchangeable (the old charger has to go to landfill)
- charger changed from world-voltage to 240V (means you can't travel for more than a few days to North America as you can't charge it)
- LCD replaced with three LEDs (you have to turn on the toothbrush to see its charge level - no indication of modes)
- 30s quadrant notification stops brushing for a second or two (irritating has hell compare to the old one which pulsed the brush)

The Good:
- Over-pressure light on back of toothbrush provides a better indication while brushing than display
- Display now has a star rating that stays between brushes

To be honest, that's a poor swap. If I'd known the charger didn't do 110V for North America I wouldn't have gone for this model. This is the second Braun product in as many months that we've replaced and noticed either incompatible parts or a cheapening of components resulting in an inferior product.

As such, I think you've lost me Braun. I won't purchase anything from your again.

If commenting on an owned Braun toothbrush, it would be useful to know WHEN you bought yours. As I've had two models in the past few years, we know Braun periodically update or downgrade these. Mine was purchased in February 2012 and it's possible Braun have fixed things since. Apologies if you've found this review after buying a new one and it's just as bad.
