This review is from: Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World [DVD] (DVD)
"Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" is a bit like "Wanderlust" meets "Deep Impact" as a straight laced middle aged insurance man (Steve Carell) forms a romantic relationship with extroverted ,"kooky" next door neighbour Keira Knightly,a woman about 20 years younger than him, against the background of the impending destruction of Earth by a 70 mile wide asteroid. They flee their riot infested city in search of Carell's lost love and Knightleys family and find love amidst the chaos that is unfolding. It is not really a comedy although it is fairly light hearted despite the grim storyline. To be honest I thought that Carell and Knightley didn't make for a credible couple. They were too different and I couldn't see what Knightley would have seen in him.I dont think Carell smiles in the whole film either despite Knightleys relentless good humour. Do opposites really attract ? This lack of chemistry made me hover on the verge of giving this film a two star, but I decided to give it a three on the back of Knightley's show stealing performance.
