I have just been slating this director on another film, but I must give him full marks for this one!!A lot of detail could have been fudged here, but it wasn't at all.For example, the visit of the Russian Tsar's family, and the behaviour of the Tsarina was amazing but truly plausible. The child stars were admirable, especially in view of the graphic scenes of epilepsy -- they acted through them so well. Poor lonely John was kept well away from the rest of the Royals,as John's Doctor said to the Queen - " it just wouldn't do Ma'am!!" It was clear that the lost Prince John, was very intelligent, but a child that needed so much love, was born to the wrong family. His father,George the 5th, was depicted as being totally neurotic and obsessional, but his grandfather,Edward the 7th, was shown as being far more tolerant and understanding. The Royal family were so afraid of making any mistakes at all in public. Are they the same now? Who can answer that? Buy this film,it is excellent.
