Worst Wrestlemania ever?,
This review is from: WWF: Wrestlemania 9 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The start of a very awkward era in the WWF. Bret has already stepped up from the previous years IC win. Shawn is starting to get over as a cocky heel and Razor is starting to come through but it still seems a bit early for these guys. The main problem with this PPV is the fact that all but one of the matches stinks the place up. And it's not the match you would expect, The Steiners put on a great technical match against The Headshrinkers that really showcased Scott Steiners pre pumped ability. The Frankensteiner really was something to behold in 1993. It doesn't start well with the announcers being humiliated one by one in togas and on camels. Also, the outdoor sunshine puts a dampener on most of the matches, can you imagine The Undertakers chilling entrance with the lights and mystery being substituted by blue skies and women in togas? Not that he'll want to remember his match with the awkward Giant Gonzales soon. Mr Perfect jobbing to Luger was depressing and Hogan was terrible not once but twice. The roster was starting to show signs of weakness. Luger, Doink, Crush, (the new) Backlund, Beefcake, Giant Gonzales, the list goes on.
As you can probably tell, this isn't a great one especially compared to the years before and after. On the positive side, it was good to hear JR in WWF although not so great to see him in a toga and The Steiners had a go at entertaining us. Some highlighted negativity was the Yoko vs Bret match which was one of the Hitman's worst and Tito not even making the card and settling with a dark match. The main problem was the inability of the talented new guys to step up and carry the worse wrestlers through the matches.
