This is a fascinating new book by Arieh Ben-Naim. I had not studied molecular biology before but this book does a good job of introducing the central ideas such as the Central Dogma to a wider audience than say the usual textbooks. The style is also quite informal and makes it easy to read and less in the form of a university textbook. I quite like the student and the professor being named and on good terms. It attempts to present the student experience as well as the academic aspects. The diagrams and pictures are also both helpful academically as well as relaxing the student with some added humour.
Do not however be mistaken in assuming the book is not academic in nature, it certainly is and would no doubt provide a good extra book to be read side by side with the standard texts in molecular biology. Some of the more difficult ideas present in the material are often presented in ways that simplify the concept, often through the use of a diagram. This is also a good idea.
All in all a good book to include in your library to be read alongside a standard text.
