TOP 1000 REVIEWERon 23 October 2012
It has finally happened - demigods from the Greek Camp Half-Blood have arrived at the Roman demigod camp in San Francisco. They are there to reunite Percy with Annabeth and pick up Hazel and Frank so they can begin the quest of the seven to the ancient lands. The peace between the two camps is fragile at best, but that's better than it's been in all of history.

But that peace is shattered when Leo fires on the camp from the ship he's built - an action he can not explain. The seven hastily set off, but as always gods and monsters are waiting to block their path. And all the time Nico is trapped in Rome dying. Will they reach him in time? Will they rescue him without falling into a trap themselves? And will Annabeth succeed in a solo quest where so many of her siblings have failed?

If those names mean nothing to you, this is definitely not the book for you. Considering this is the eighth book set in this universe, that's hardly surprising. Start with the first book about Percy Jackson, and you'll be here before you know it.

Having said that, I think long time fans will be a bit disappointed with this one. While the formula for the stories has always been obvious, here it's a bit more so. That really causes things to drag in the middle where at least 100 pages could be cut. Yes, they provide a bit of information about the characters, but they are just too slow.

Once the characters reach their final destination for this book, this certainly pick up, and I had a hard time setting the book down. Characters get further developed, and I like where he is heading with all of them. And the cliffhanger will have you counting down the days until the next installment.

While not the best book with these characters, it is a trip fans will want to take.
