Elaine Paige's finest recordings from the last 30+ YEARS on one single CD!,
This review is from: The Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
Many probably don't know Elaine Paige was a prolific recording star during the 1980s and 1990s. This album acts therefore as a welcome reminder of this important part of her career. Over 30 YEARS of music is contained here all sequenced in original release order from Paige's 1978 "Evita" debut to her latest 2011 triumph on Broadway in "Follies".
Paige is without doubt a mega star of "Musical Theatre" so this album is understandably slanted towards that theme. What I actually enjoyed most however were Paige's musical interludes from the stage....where she flexes her might as a "Pop Performer".....ballads "Sometimes" and "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word" are just magical!!
The biggest surprise on this album is the CLUB remix. Who would have imagined EP remixed?! I believe this is Paige's first ever dabbling into the genre of dance music. "BE ON YOUR OWN" is an old track from her STAGES album given new life with a dance beat and high-energy styling.....I'm sure it will have many dancing around their handbags!! :-)
The 2 unreleased songs for me are what however makes the album so worthwhile as it's the closest step towards a new album and considering the CD sells for under £5 is quite a surprise to find. If I'm honest I think "IT'S RAINING ON PROM NIGHT" is the stand-out of the two tracks as the other doesn't have the same wow factor.
Plus the great lady herself has written a nice message where she actually acknowledges the support of her people who like me have bought all her records through the years. :-)
I may have a lot of the songs already but for the sheer fun of it I'm giving this album a massive thumbs up as it has brought back a lot of "Memories" about a very special entertainer who really should make a new album soon! We need MORE brand new Paige please!
