Jewish German composers - Serenades,
This review is from: Jadassohn & Brüll Serenades for Orchestra - Music of 19th Century Jewish German Composers Vol.3 (Audio CD)
This is a CD of serenades by two Jewish German composers sadly neglected today. Ignaz Brull (1846-1907) and Salomon Jadassohn (1831-1902) wrote serenades together with many other more well known composers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. These pieces are less heavily orchestrated with the emphasis on melody. This can be readily heard here. Jadassohn and Brull's music fell out of favour with rising anti-semitism although Jadassohn himself was a great admirer of Wagner and Liszt.
These pieces are full of melody and a pleasure to listen to. A lovely CD.
