I love Kander & Ebb. And I love their lesser known works more than the obvious hype of Cabaret or Chicago.
The Rink, for example, is one of their greatest scores and with a book that is so acerbic it could bend steel.
Steel Pier, however, is flawed. An amazing production at the Union Street in London in 2012 saw it's London professional premiere. But was still unable to disguise the fact that there is only one GREAT song in this show - and it's sung by a supporting character:
"So if your passion rages, I'm in the yellow pages... I'm everybody's girl... You don't be disappointed, I'm also double jointed.... everybody's girl....
Men and me and like pianos. When they get upright, I FEEL GRAND!"
