This review is from: Berlin Game (Harper Books) (Paperback)
The only Deighton book I have read previously was "Bomber" and that was perhaps twenty years ago. So I came to this book cold, being unaware of the long series of books about Bernard Samson. This was not the only problem I have with "Berlin Game"- recently I have read several books by Le Carre, who is a vastly superior espionage writer.
From page one, I found this book unconvincing and unbelievable- it lacks credibility. No matter how exciting the action is, it fails to overcome this fundamental problem. Espionage novels are NOT fantasies, they depend on layers of realism.
