Customer Review

on 17 January 2001
An important objective for me was to gain an overall understanding of the mechanics of the data base and also a source for gaining insight into some of the more in depth features of Oracle. (My technical expertise was gained on other data bases). As an IT manager, the gap between these two is surprisingly bridged within a single book.
Features of the book are the 'special thoughts' which are obviously the fruits of hard experience. The style is friendly and informative, placing the subject area in context to give you the flavour. As for the detail, all terms are well explained when first used (which I have highlighted for future reference!).
In a Data Warehouse project, the partitioning strategy is key to performance. The pit falls I have encountered in the past are all clearly illustrated in the 'Partitioning' section of the book. Ignore at your peril!
