Down Town is back!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lost in Austen [DVD] (DVD)
For some reason one of the funniest sequences in this wonderful comedy was cut when this dvd was released - Amanda singing Down Town to Mr Darcy and friends. There was a bit of an outcry, and it seems to have done some good because it's been restored! It encapsulates everything that is magic about this show. Jemima Rooper was born to play Amanda - her comic timing is spot on and she's very lovable. Mr Bingley makes me laugh every time I watch this scene, and Mr Darcy's face - at first horrified, and then secretly amused - is a great turning point in the love story. I don't know what they were thinking of cutting it before but it appears pester power has worked!!

Hi. I just wanted to say you are incorrect. Pester power has not worked. I ordered my copy sent to the US last week, received it this morning - and the Downtown scene is NOT there. So I am afraid you are mistaken and I would not want other customers to be as fooled as I was.

Perhaps the reviewer could tell us where they bought the "complete" version and if it has any distinguishing markings "director's cut" sort of thing.

Ms. Christine Gray says:
I've just ordered another copy of Lost in Austen from Amazon (July 2010) after reading about the missing "Downtown" scene which I had forgotten about. I was very disappointed that this copy is the same as my original one (Sept 2008). The "running time" is 179 minutes on both copies. Can you please tell me the running time on the back cover of your copy that has the Downtown scene included. I don't know how to get such a copy! Thanks. Christine.
