Lots of beautiful collages made up from photographs and souvenirs from Allegra's travels make this book a wonderful visual feast as well. She has had an interesting career which has taken her all over the world, and there's plenty to read in this book too, with an introduction to each new country, as well as a bit about the knives that she has collected from her travels. There's also a a short piece on each of the recipes, which is interesting, as Allegra writes about how she came by the recipe, and something about the experience of eating it. There are colour pictures of everything too, which helps a lot, as some of the recipes are a bit unusual sounding, so it helps to see them too. This is the perfect book to give as a present for a well-traveled friend who likes to eat, or someone who likes to cook unusual food. It's beautiful, inspiring and is almost as much about travel as it is about food. Some of the recipes need ingredients that are difficult to find, but there are plenty that don't, and would give you the chance to try out something new from a far away country.
