Well you may need one; it sure can get rough in those wormholes! Tsar Wars Serpent Crest is another of those wonderfully cosy adventures penned by the prolific Paul Magrs and starring everyone's favourite Doctor - the legendary Tom Baker. To be frank, this yarn about robot empires clashing with the remnants of humanity didn't quite fire my imagination in the way that the Relics of Time did, but there's still much to enjoy here. The classic McGuffin of doppelgangers and mistaken identity is exploited to good effect and we even get to hear a delightfully unhinged dialogue between the Doctor and himself (aka Father Gregory), but what on Earth was that accent Tom? It starts off vaguely gestapo-ish, but I'm sure Tom lapses into a sort of Renee Artois and even lets slip a 'n'est-ce pas' at one point!
To summarise, it's light. It's fun, with a nice Christmassy theme at the start and timeshift twist at the end, which leaves the listener eager for the next instalment. Audio is very clear with good stereo separation.
Maybe not the greatest of of the Doctor's audio adventures, but Tom Baker fans (and who isn't?) won't be disappointed.
