Takes a Little Getting Used To,
This review is from: Philips AVENT Comfort Single Electric Breast Pump - UK 3pin Plug (Baby Product)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I was a bit concerned about getting an electrical breast pump as I think I'd read reviews for a least five different ones and the same comment seemed to appear in all of the reviews - you needed to find one that suited you. But as I'd already bought Philips Avent bottles, it did seem the brand to go for.
My first thoughts when I unpacked the pump (having never even seen one before) were that it seemed to have a lot of bits, but the instructions were very clear and I had no problems working out how everything fit together or how the pump worked. (My only complaint about the instructions is that the figures/diagrams are on the inside of the back cover and it isn't clear that that's where they are - I didn't find them straight away). I'd recommend reading the instruction booklet through first and taking note that it says the first time you use the pump you need to take your time and not be rushed. And also to bear in mind when the instruction booklet says are good times to express your milk.
I did find initially that I had more success expressing by hand than by using the pump. But I think this was partly because my breastfeeding wasn't established enough and also because I felt more relaxed expressing by hand. However, I gave myself more time to become used to breastfeeding and using the pump subsequently I have become more confident in using it and have had more success. I would recommend the Philips AVENT SCF332/01 pump but would say - make sure you read the instructions and give yourself the time to become comfortable using it.
Edited to add - this has been a lifesaver. I ran into some problems breastfeeding from the left side, and this breast pump has meant that I've been able to keep breastfeeding whilst getting over them. Very glad that I have this piece of kit.
Added January 2016 - I've been able to use this to express milk for my second baby born Autumn 2015. So worth hanging onto if you're planning on another baby in the future.
