Customer Review

on January 3, 2004
There is no reason why you should want to have this as you now can get the complete performance with improved sound and picture quality on the Jimi Hendrix-Blue Wild Angel - Jimi Hendrix at the Isle of Wight, now even in a double pack with the complete performance on a double CD as well as on a single DVD.
That is unless you already have it of course - as I do, since I bought this first, and was amazed by the performances of Spanish Caste Magic, All Along The Watchtower (I remember this well from the first Polydor version of the Jimi Hendrix at Isle of Wight LP, the one with the yellow background), Red House and not least In from the storm. There has always been a lot of discussion around Jimi Hendrix's performance at Isle of Wight (see the reviews on the aforementioned Wild Blue Angel DVD), but I have always liked it, - and it is one of the last documented performances by Hendrix, so this is where he was at when his life so sadly was cut short. "A bit more honey on this one Charlie ... just say Mitch Mitchell on drums, Billy Cox on bass, and the man with the guitar, you know, call 'em the Blue Wild Angels ... what ... the Wild Blue Angels ... ok, are you ready? Yeah ... Let's have a welcome for Billy Cox on Bass, Mitch Mitchell on drums and the man with the guitar, Jimi Hendrix! ... Yeah, thanks for showing up! ... It has been a long time, hasn't it? ... That does mean peace, not this ... Peace ... Ok, give us about a minute to tune up ... (how does it go? ... Da-da-da-da-da-da ...) It's so good to be back in England. We'd like to start up with a thing that everybody knows out there. You can join us and start singing, as a matter of fact it sounds better if you stand up - Stand up for you country and start singing, if you don't, f... you (he, he) ..." A tremendous performance - think I'll keep it.
The duration of this DVD is 56 min (equal to that of the previous VHS edition) and the complete track listing is:
Message to Love (only used as background during film intro)
God Save the Queen / Sgt. Pepper
Spanish Castle Magic
All Along the Watchtower
Voodoo Chile
Freedom
Machine Gun
Dolly Dagger
Red House
In From the Storm
There are no DVD extras.
