Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I have Norton Internet Security 2012 on one of my PC's and installed Kaspersky 2012 on another. I have used both in the past. Norton has really upped their game since the mid 00's to catch up with Kaspersky, which has always been regarded as a very decent piece of software. Both packages have come down in price to a very similar level.
For a while I was using the free software you can get (Zonealarm, AVG, Microsoft Security essentials, spybot, adaware, malwarebytes, etc etc) but got tired of things occasionally getting through (luckily nothing serious). I wanted something that did everything and didn't slow down the computer.
Both Norton and Kaspersky were very easy to install. I would say that Kaspersky had a slightly more user friendly installation interface, useful for computer illiterate people.
They take a while to install. Once restarted they both started up seamlessly. Kaspersky needed a massive 160Mb update, even though it was a brand new and boxed 2012 edition, this took a while over my pathetic 2Mb copper wire broadband!
I didn't do any configuration of any packages, they set themselves up with default settings which is unlike the free products that seem to ask questions every few days (e.g. do you want to allow "product X to access the internet" blah blah).
It's hard to say where an internet security product is any good, until you find out it's useless if you get a virus or something. So far, both Norton and Kaspersky have run flawlessly and not slowed the computer. Which would I choose? If you can get a good deal then I'd happily go with the cheaper.
They're both excellent and reassuring pieces of software.
