I have spent hours within each of the books that George R. R. Martin has written to date for his epic fantasy series 'A Song of Ice and Fire', and I have watched all the episodes release thus far by HBO in their ongoing series 'A Game of Thrones' many times. I will always be a die hard fan of the books first and foremost, simply due to the depth within then that 10 hours of footage on our screens can never really bring out for the watcher, whereas the reader will know and loves these characters, though I love 'A Game of Thrones'.
I am amazed to see how well HBO have done in portraying Martin's fantasy world, they have done a superb job and although not all the events on the shown happen or happen in the same way as they do in the books, all the individual stories collide and correspond extremely well, intertwining and affecting the outcome of the 'Seven Kingdoms' for good for the watcher, just like the books.
This would be a fantastic buy for anyone yet to see 'A Game of Thrones' or wanting to re-watch some of the amazing scenes, footage and dialogue that has to date been brought out by HBO! This is quite possibly one of the greatest fantasy saga's ever to come onto our screens and will go down in history as a massive success, each series being as good if not better than the one before, brilliant attention to details and character development, there has never been a better time that now to catch up in readying yourself for the next series, coming to our TV's in 2014.
*warning* - This is not always mentioned, but I feel it important as some can be put off very early on because of it (for those who have watched it, I refer to the Jaime and Cersei scene in the first episode), there are a fair few 'inappropriate' sex scenes that may shock you, but do not let that stop you pushing forwards in watching this show, it is given the appropriate airtime and does affect the rest of the story line, so it is necessary as Martin endears to set a 'realistic' world for the reader/watcher.
Finally, let me advise you to get reading, learn more about the characters and fall in love with Martin's style of writing. The books are big, the story fast progressing and the world absorbing, give them a go - you won't be disappointed!
