If you're trying to create cappuccino at home you may have read sites like CoffeeGeek. It's a great site, but it's really for the extreme connoisseur. The froth you get from this is the kind they describe as 'dishwater'. However if, like me, you're just looking to recreate the Starbucks/M&S experience at home, this does the job just fine; actually better because you don't have to take it back and tell them it's not hot enough/has too much/not enough froth etc etc etc. Froth will support several spoonfuls of sugar (which is my main, admittedly philistine, criterion) all the way to the bottom. Skimmed/semi/full milk all work just as well as each other. My personal method, after a week of experimentation, is 2min10sec in the microwave, and then don't be shy with the handle; really bash the milk, keeping the frother around about the 'Max' mark on the jar and it will double the volume.
