This review is from: The Creed of the Kromon (Doctor Who) (Audio CD)
This is the fifty third release from Big Finish in their range of full cast audio adventures starring classic Doctor Whos. It stars Paul McGann as Eight, India Fisher as Charley Pollard and Conrad Westermaas as new companion C'rizz. It is the second in a season of four linked Eighth Doctor stories that follow directly from the events of Zagreus. There are 4 episodes, roughly 25-30 minutes each, complete with original theme music between each, and cliff hanger endings. Two episodes per disc on 2 discs, and a short booklet with some pictures of the cast and production notes.
Following directly from the events of Scherzo, Eight and Charley set off to explore the new universe, and find the TARDIS. The Universe is different to ours, there are defined zones, physical and mental divisions between them, and one need the permission of the mysterious Kroker to travel from zone to zone. But the Kroker seems to have an agenda of his own. Here he sends the pair to the Utermisan zone, where they have a pretty rip roaring adventure trying to overthrow the Kromon who have enslaved the local populance and made the land a desert. Along the way we continue to learn more about the Doctor and Charley, and the yearning of Charley for children, brought up in Scherzo, now comes to the fore again in an interesting manner. And C'rizz looks set to be an interesting character, and adds an interesting dynamic to the team.
Some of the ideas might be a little old, but the story rips along at a good pace and is filled with some good performances. And some of the imagery thrown up, especially with Charley's strand, are excellent. All in all 4 stars for this story.
