THE to-go-to guide for Mediterranean flowers,
This review is from: Wild Flowers of the Mediterranean: A Complete Guide to the Islands and Coastal Regions (Paperback)
This is a brilliantly illustrated and designed guide to the flowers you will find in the Mediterranean coastal regions - that is, all areas under 1000m where you might expect to find vines and olives. Each species is given an number which makes finding it from the index, or from the illustrations, a doddle. The paintings of flowers are incredibly clear and detailed - much better than photographs for distinguishing one species from another closely related one. The botanical (Linnaeus system)and English names are given, and a clear technical profile for which any botanic terms are explained in a comprehensive glossary, and line illustrations are given in the margins for additional clarity. If you're looking for a guide to help you identify plants, including trees and grasses, if you live in the Mediterranean as I do, or are going on holiday, this is THE guide to go for. There is no competition apart from the dry four-volume Flora Europea, which I imagine most would neither pay for nor be willing to carry.
