I'm old enough to remember seeing both "Romancing The Stone" (1984) and it's tasty follow up "Jewel Of The Nile" (1985) in the cinema (to wildly appreciative audiences) and thinking what a huge breath of fresh air both films were. Michael Douglas and the sexy Kathleen Turner hamming it up in Columbian jungles like characters out of her romance novels (exuding rare chemistry and genuine star quality) while Danny DeVito’s sleazoid character Ralph gets the crumpled suits and the drug-dealer’s share of the great one-liners.
But British fans of both films should note that the 'US' 20th Century Fox BLU RAYS of each are REGION A LOCKED - so they will not play on our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which few are).
Stick with the now released UK versions – and wait until they hit the ‘2 for £10’ lists. They look better than the DVDs I’ve had all these years and both movies are as memory-refreshing as stumbling on a Grateful Dead jacket in the pilot’s seat of a crashed plane…
