another very good book from RICHARD VAN EMDEN. The book is an account of life in the trenches of the Western Front -1914 to 1918.It is compiled from interviews and accounts from the soldiers who experienced the day to day life and carnage of the Great War. The book is laid out in a chronicological order from 1914 to 1918. What you will read is the experiences of the tommies themselves, the shelling, lice, rations, dead bodies littering the battlefield, mud, trench foot, watching comrades getting killed or blown to bits, the letters and parcels from blighty. Also not being able to bathe regularly, the day to day work to repair trenches and communications, the recreation time away from the front line, etc. This is a recommended read for anyone who wants to know more about the Great War. Other books I would recommend by the author are, THE LAST FIGHTING TOMMY- HARRY PATCH and SAPPER MARTIN.
