I, too, have been an avid fan of Susan Howatch and have been waiting with baited breath for her masterpieces such as Penmarric, Cashelmara, The Rich are Different etc. to come out on Kindle so I can re-read them. As they have not yet made their electronic appearance I decided to buy Glittering Images. As someone who has a personal knowledge and interest in the Christian faith (although not Church of England) I expected this book to be a fascinating read.
The first half of the book was dull, the second half slightly better - however whether I am naive or not I found the whole story line implausible and littered with men of God living unGodly lives and battling with weird, far fetched carnal situations. Very disappointed as I had hoped to have some good reading to come by purchasing the sequels. That's definitely not going to happen. This is a boring book which I feel relieved at having finished. Come on publishers please, - give us some of her old family sagas to enjoy on kindle!!
