I will say at the outset that I am a long time fan. In comparison with Wrecking Ball and The Rising, and to a lesser extent, the Seeger Sessions, this is very average indeed. It took a real effort to get past the first two tracks (High Hopes and Harry's Place) which are just noisy rants. This is repeated on the pseudo-political The Ghost of Tom Joad. Heaven's Wall with its "Raise Your Hands" chorus looks like a parody of a stadium rock anthem - we can all see what is going to happen when this is played live in a big venue. That has got the major negatives out of the way. Some of the other tracks look very derivative - to me, The Wall track sounds very much like a re-working of the classic "Shenandoah" and Frankie Fell in Love could be a pastiche of Raymond Froggatt's Froggie went A-Courting and Roly's Gonna Get Married. Overall - disappointing, not one of the Boss's best.
