This review is from: BLACK (Hard-boiled noir detective mystery) (Kindle Edition)
Overall I found the book entertaining and at times quite funny. The writing style is very good and grabs your attention.
Unfortunately the book falls down in several areas. The author tries too hard to make it seem like the main character has anger issues, which seems forced as the character doesn't really do anything that a more mellow person wouldn't have done. The underlying theme of anger problems didn't really play an important part of the story either. The outcome of the case and Black's theory seems far fetched, with very little evidence giving him reason for this theory, apart from the suspect's reluctance to cooperate once confronted. Also some of the dialogue with Stan seems forced, for example the scene where they joke about being partners in prison. A similar example that stuck out was when Roxie asked Black if two lesbians was his fantasy. It seemed too forced and didn't sit right with the banter that her and Black had going.
Other than these few flaws, it was an entertaining read over all. If it wasn't for these few, I might consider buying the next in the series.
