1.0 out of 5 stars Oops!, 17 Aug. 2009
This review is from: Queen Victoria's Grandchildren (Hardcover)
Haven't read this - however the synopsis gives cause for concern as Queen Victoria had NINE children, eight of whom gave her grandchildren. With something that basic wrong I hope the book is more accurate than the synopsis. Doubt many people really interested in Victoria would give this a second glance after such a mistake before even seeing the book!

Roger May says:
I have no idea who wrote the synopsis, but I have read the book, and it clearly states that Victoria had nine children. I have found no other book which gives potted biographies and photos of all 40 grandchildren - hence, perhaps, the high prices it seems to fetch . . . .

Like C. Corbey, I haven't read the book either. However, Queen Victoria's children were: Victoria, Princess Royal; Albert Edward, later Edward VII; Alice; Alfred; Helena; Louise; Arthur; Leopold; and finally Beatrice. That makes nine, and all but Louise would become parents themselves. So what's the issue with the synopsis?

I have read the book and it does mention all nine of Queen Victorias children; but obviously covers only the eight who had children. So there is no error - therefore it's unfair to only give one star

K Ferrars is right in what she/he says. The synopsis says "Only one of Queen Victoria's eight children remained childless, and the other seven provided her with a total of 40 grandchildren." Clearly wrong, however hopefully the actual book with be more accurate. Still a bit harsh as a book review as I always understood it to be Amazon writing the synopsis?
