Saw 2 is a sequel to the superior original that came out a couple of years ago. The plot is similar in that it's about a man dying of cancer who decides to take it upon himself to teach those who he believes are taking their lives for granted the value of their lives and making them go through torturous ordeals to survive being killed. In the first film it was set in a disused bathroom where several people were locked in, in this film it's set in a house with (guess what) - people locked in. Quelle surprise.
The problem with this film and also with a lot of newer horror films is that the unlikeliest culprit is probably the guilty one. The reason I say this is that I guessed about 15 minutes into the film what the score was. I like to be surprised. This film did not do that. There was a bit at the end of the film that I really didn't see coming so credit to the writers there but the rest of the film I felt was pretty predictable.
Some of the characters were really annoying so being in that position, I probably would've killed them off myself.
I have still given it an above average 3 stars though mainly due to gory bits that did make me cringe. In a world where there's so many horror films that's hard to do. I really hope they don't make another one of these movies though but unfortunately, Hollywood likes to squeeze every last drop out of a movie so there probably will be. One request though - if you're gonna make a sequel at least make it a good one.
