A lyrical masterpiece. Simon's mature songwriting encapsulates the paradoxical nature of life. He tells us that he is 'having a good time' while acknowledging that 'his life's a mess' and that he 'may be laughing his way to disaster'. He extols the virtues of 'getting yourself free' in Fifty Ways, whilst clearly feels melancholy for his past relationship in 'I do it for Your Love' and 'Gone at Last'. He is deeply religious in Silent Eyes, yet jokes about pledging allegance to the wall in My Little Town. A relaxing and deep album. Best of all is the line 'Yesterday it was my birthday, I hung one more year on the line'. I think about this every May 23rd!!
