This review is from: Unmapped Country: the story of North & South continues (Kindle Edition)
With very rare exceptions I find that sequels to classic novels are at best passable, and at worst, absolutely dire. In "Unmapped Country" Chrissie Elmore has written a really good follow on to Mrs. Gaskell's beloved "North and South". Avoiding Mrs. Gaskell's ending she takes the story in a different direction and in so doing creates an interesting tale in its own right. The language she uses is, to my mind, in tune with the period and I found myself enjoying it immensely.
I have kept it on my Kindle to read again in the future. The only other "sequel" to a famous book that I have enjoyed re-reading is D.A. Bonavia Hunt's lovely "Pemberley Shades" (a follow on to "Pride and Prejudice") and that was written over 60 years ago.
I look forward to more from Chrissie Elmore.
