1.0 out of 5 stars Why I ask myself, why!!!, 8 Sept. 2007
This review is from: The Outsider (Audio CD)
I saw DJ Shadow play out at the UEA at the end of 2006 and his performance was fantastic. I wept when I heard this album, not with tears of joy but with tears of pain. Part of me wanted to sample the album onto computer then re-edit it so it actually sounded listenable. I beg of you not to buy the album and do the classic trick of trying really hard to like it by playing it and forgiving it being poor because of his past efforts. There are plenty more trip/hip hop artists around who will give you far more pleasure than you will get from this effort. Stick to what you are good at Shadow. Take a leaf out of your old mate Lavelles book!!! :)

I feel your pain, Krisman. I bought this album and couldn't believe what I was hearing. When I first heard "Endtroducing...", I was absolutely blown away by it. That album is the most wonderful, emotional journey, and since then it has been one of my absolute favourites. The only emotion I felt listening to "The Outsider" was disgust. Especially when I heard the egregious "Keep 'Em Close" - an absolute abomination, and nothing to do with what I thought DJ Shadow was about. The only tracks of any worth are "This Time" and "Broken Levee Blues". The rest can go in the bin.
