It took its time but thanks to the energetic Pregadio we finally have a comprehensive English-language guide to Taoism in absolutely all its forms, and at a price that won't drain your face of ch'i. (At this moment a new copy of Kohn's 2005 Daoism Handbook will set you back £1,195.98 here on Amazon UK. ^_^)
It has everything in it. It's like having 46 of the greatest transglobal Taoism scholars giving you a seminar in your front room, and then answering questions perpetually. All the usual suspects including Pregadio himself plus Kohn, Robinet, Kirkland etc. They don't pretend to agree with each other all the time either, which is appropriate. The alphabetised entries cover all the schools, all major texts and scriptures plus some of the less major, all the famous practitioners, geographical locations, deities, terminologies, etc. Included are several entries detailing the religion as practiced right now. There's also a 200-page initial overview amounting to a text in its own right.
I won't review in detail. If you think you might be this book's target audience, you are. :) Enjoy.
