Effectively captures the spirit of the excellent Space Hulk board game (GW or FF bring it back PLEASE); tactical, claustrophobic & dangerous, as well as being just a damn fun game overall.
Pros... *Solo play possible and fun. It's rare to find a board/card game with this feature, and even more so that works as well as it does here. *Good quality game pieces, both in material and design. Great looking cards, Terminator Space Marines (good guys) and Genestealers (baddies) are drawn and coloured beautifully. *The game fits in a smallish neat package (fits in a coat pocket) so makes it nicely portable for your beer and board game nights out. *Good representation of the Warhammer 40k Space Hulk universe. Representatives of almost all the types of offensive capabilities marines can employ are here; lightning claw, power sword, heavy flamer, psychic power, along with areas of a space hulk ship and genestealers. *Straight forward enough rules (once you've understood them, see cons below) with a solid amount of depth, complexity and strategy to gameplay. *Good re-playability. A decent number of terrain (spawning & special location) cards to deal with, lots of event cards (special round actions/conditions) and 6 teams of marines to play with. *Doesn't take an age to finish a game. *Expansions available. Being a card based game, it appears to be easy enough to expand/replace elements of the base game.
Cons... *Messy manual (in content, not in appearance). The rules start out fine, but then appear to diverge into an illogical order. It lets the game down, as it increases the time it takes to learn it.
PS: I thoroughly recommend watching phiveball's "Death Angel Card Game Solo" video series on YouTube for an idea of what the game is about, and to help clarify the manual when you've bought it.
