Easy SATA drive expansion,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Syba 2 Port SATA 6Gbps PCI-Express x1 2.0 Card (Personal Computers)
I was out of space on my media centre PC and out of SATA ports, so was looking for an expansion card. I looked at various makes and models from different suppliers and the prices of a 2-port SATA III card varied wildly. I was a bit nervous about this one as some of the reviews were iffy, but it was a good price and available through Amazon and not a third-party.
It's actually branded in an Iocrest box, but with a sticker stating Asmedia and their part number (and which the drivers are called). It's easy to install, I used my x16 slot which is v2.0 compatible so gives the best performance (I'd read x1 slots are sometimes slower and you need v2 likewise), not that it was massively important.
I installed on a Win 7/32-bit machine, installed the drivers off the supplied disk and rebooted. The card appeared at POST, though initially it stated it couldn't find a drive, turns out I hadn't connected the power to the device, with that rectified the computer found it at full 6 Gbps.
I had to initialise the drive in Disk Management (from Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer Management) and was then able to format it. So far all good and at a reasonable price too.
