Wilderness takes the slasher theme of naughty teenagers and changes them into nasty young offenders. After bullying another prisoner to death they get to travel to a Scottish island for some survival skills, only to find survive is exactly what they need to do. The identity of the obligatory stalker (complete with John Rambo collection of traps, crossbows and a pack of human-flesh-seeking Alsatians) might have been a mystery to those who slept through the first 20 minutes but just to make certain one of the chacters tells us. The film is not about working out who did it, but rather how can they be stopped.
Although one can spot the likely survivors, the characters are well-played with no maudlin death-bed conversions; the chief bully dying as he lived. The film has a DOG SOLDIERS feel and not just because it has Sean Pertwee.
