This review is from: Adventures With the Wife in Space: Living With Doctor Who (Kindle Edition)
I've been following Neil and Sue's Doctor-Who-watching antics for a couple of years on their blog, so was intrigued to hear this tie-in volume was coming to bookshelves and kindles. For a while I hesitated before purchasing it, as I wondered whether, having read their blog top-to-bottom, the subject of their relationship with the series, and with one another, had already been mined of all its entertainment value. I needn't have worried: this is a wonderful book, and one I'm very glad I bought.
I was surprised how accessible the book was. No foreknowledge of the Wife in Space was necessary. Anybody, be they a Doctor Who specialist, or merely a casual friend to the series, could find pleasure in this highly readable book. This isn't just the story of a marathon of archive television: this is something more personal - an autobiography and a romance. The story of Neil Perryman's life, how he and Sue fell in love, why they married, and why they're still in love despite being married and sitting through all these hours of BBC adventure.
I can't think when I've found something so enjoyable a read, or found myself speeding through a book so constantly delighted. I was sad when the book ended, but was heartened by the thought that the Perrymen will go on to have many fabulous adventures. I look forward to reading about whatever they embark on next.
