I have the original iPad + similar black Gumdrop protection case so I pretty much knew what to expect. The big iPad has separate protective plastic screen which helps the assembly (total 3 parts) but the iPad mini version there is only one hard plastic part (total 2 parts). There are no instructions how to install the hard plastic part so it took me 3-5 times to try it on; anyway do not rush to put the silicon part on until the hard plastic part is neatly seated. I haven't had any usability problems with the protective case.
The actual protection works as it should so nothing to complain, the kids has been using iPad mini with Gumdrop case one month now.
