I first heard of this film from a book called "what should have been Oscars"..or something of that name. It mentioned this sleeper movie as better than "Rain Man". I tracked it for years and one night (late typically) it was on TV. I taped it and saw a most wonderful movie about normal run-of -the -mill people with big hearts. I just love the acting, the story, the music and the sentiment. Tom Hulce just shows what he can do...truly understated performance as the slow but sentimental brother. The ending instead of being sad turns out to be full of hope against adversary and never fails to make me misty-eyed. That wonderful music so often referred to is the most brilliant "I go to Rio" by Peter Allen. They play a live extended version (that I never been able to get on CD) at the film end and its so wonderful and inspiring. You just gotta see this movie once in your lifetime......................please.
