I re-read the Dark Swan series this weekend and found myself more disturbed than on my previous readings regarding Eugenie's attitude to her pregnancy, children and their father. Family relationships are at the heart of the Dark Swan series of books - the theme of deception in family relationships goes through every book - and that is why it feels even more unlikely that Eugenie would choose to abandon her babies and lie about their fathering. Not knowing who her father was pretty much made her the screwed up individual she is, caught between 2 worlds, unable to commit to either, so why does she continue that path? It really feels as though there should be a Book 5 where she realises that she is continuing on the same destructive path as her own parents, not to mention various other characters in Otherworld, and comes clean with Dorian. What about a seasonal novella to do this? The end of the series leaves a very unpleasant taste in the mouth.
