TOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICEon 2 July 2009
This marked the start of eight years of compelling magical and entertaining series of Charmed. My children being ardent fans soon had me hooked on this series. I must say this first series is my favourite season even though the magic, the storyline and the special effects were much simpler than in later seasons, but I love it most for the naive early beginnings and best of all the banter and romantic development between Prue (Shannon Doherty ) and Andy (T. W. King of the General hospital fame). It was fresh and sometimes one wondered where the writers where going with it, but to see the sisters start bonding and supporting one another in the face of the ensuing evil forces they had to fight/ vanquish was good. The character developments and quirky naivety of the likes of Leo their white lighter made for a great comedy as well as good drama.

By mid season, there was heightened suspense and humour as the police detective, Andy Trudo (played by T.W. King ) tried hard to uncover Prue and her Sister's secret. In episode 20 - `the Power of two' he finally finds out, whoa! However 2 episodes later he is killed trying to protect Prue (the love of his life) and her sister's secret. What an emotional and heart rending episode the season finale turned out to be. I was saddened to see Andy killed off at the end of the first season, as I had hoped that he and Prue would have made a great couple / team to match the power of three of the three sisters. I understand that at the time the writers did not want a powerful male lead that may overshadow the three female leads, I don't know if that is true. Whatever the case may have been it was great to have had him in this season and it sure made for great entertainment.

The entire 22 episodes of season one is contained in 6 discs in this box-set. There are no bonus features in this box set, however it is subtitled in ten languages and you can play the movie in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and more.

This particular box set is the slim line design, smaller than the original book sized edition but bear in mind the plastic housing this one is very soft and breakable. With adequate care it should be no problem. Enjoy!
