2.0 out of 5 stars What happened!?, 7 Sept. 2011

This review is from: Let England Shake (Audio CD)
Just had listen through of this album & am thinking what's all this hype about? I can't switch the radio on recently without hearing how great this is! What happened to the old PJ Harvey? I still listen to Stories from the city, superb album! so reading other reviews it sound's like she's maybe trying something new etc well if your reading this PJH, please go back to the old style.
Track listing number 10 was okay take it or leave it but the other songs were just a bunch of whining, whaling & all together pretty random really. oh well good to read there are some newbie's out there that appreciate these tunes because she certainly has talent & I think reviewers who have not heard her songs previous to this album will be surprised how different they sound to this one. oh well my opinion is one of many, you decide.

It's "you're reading" not 'your'; wailing not 'whaling'; sounds not 'sound's'; and newbies not 'newbie's'.

Apart from that, I'll certainly take a listen to PJ's earlier work before deciding to buy this latest Mercury award-winning album.

Thanks for your critique. (Mind you, would also have been a better read if you'd bothered to start new sentences with an upper case letter - just a suggestion).

Listen to it properly then come back with a proper review. I saw her perform some tracks on various tv shows and was not impressed, but after all the hoo ha about it and prize winning I bought it and now I think its definitely album of the year.

Anyone is entitled to post any kind of review they like - that is the actual point of the review section surely? Just because it isn't in accord with your opinion doesn't justify such patronising comment.

Conclusion : people who do not like this album cannot spell. Well done J. Sumner for your patronising 'holier than thou' comments. Give yourself a pat on the back and a gold star for smugness.

I'm with you on this, I don't get the hype I have most of PJ's albums and I have to say I just don't get it with this (war) album, its the same with Neil Young's (war) album it is just cringe value.

The problem with how individuals judge a review is not, it seems, by the content of what the reviewer is saying, but merely by whether or not the reviewer actually accords with their own view ie; I like this album therefore I will leave negative because the reviewer doesn't. Well in my book that aint right.
