A GREATER DISASTER THAN THE TITANIC,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Cruellest Night: Germany's Dunkirk and the Sinking of the "Wilhelm Gustloff" (Paperback)
The evacuation of German civilians and military fleeing from the vengeful Russians after all their atrocities makes Dunkirk look like a picnic. The Baltic was icy and swept with snowstorms when the Wilhelm Gustloff (previously one of Hitler's Strength Through Joy" liners sailed with a nominal 4000 men, women and children on board. BUT order had broken down and nobody knows how many were on board, some estimate 10,000,when the ship was torpedoed!
The rescue was botched and there were few survivors.
Truly perhaps the greatest maritime disaster of all time and so little reported!
