5.0 out of 5 stars Really good iron and yes, it is quiet!, 14 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Rowenta DG8960 Silence Steam Generator, 6 Bar (Kitchen & Home)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Very pleased to have the opportunity of testing this product.
I have never used a Rowenta product before, but I am pleased with this one. It is a well made and finished piece of home equipment, and I would expect it to be around for some years to come, as it is a very sturdy looking and feeling item.
It is easy to fill, via the removable reservoir of water at the front, and the amount of water at each fill will keep you (happily?) ironing for a food long while.
The iron portion of the kit is very light and easy to handle, and the unit incorporates a strong safety clip, so that there is no chance of the iron slipping off the stand and injuring someone. Those with small children will like this feature.
The sole-plate of the iron in extremely smooth, and this helps to speed up the ironing even more, as it fairly zips across the fabric. It is also curved at the pointed end, so it is easy to get into pleats and button down collars (I didn't realise how many of these I had).
It has a good range of settings and a built in hard water filter device, which is designed to trap all the calcium and stop it blocking up your iron!
A precision shot, for stubborn creases and a vertical steam option complete the lineup.
As for the promised quietness - I was sceptical at first, I will admit, but I was instantly won over by the lack of racket this iron makes. You can use it and listen to the radio at the same time.
All in all and excellent product that does a very fine job.

SKY LIGHT says:
I've just bought one, and I get a loud clunking noise from the base unit every time I press or release the 'normal' steam button.
Is this typical in your experience, or does this sound like a fault?

Amazoniac says:
Yes, there is a slight 'clunk' - I assume it is opening or releasing some sort of valve - but it's never been loud or worrying.
If the iron works OK then I'm guessing that it's supposed to do this. If it does ever interfere with the ironing I would certainly contact Amazon and ask them what you should do, remembering that you have the full guarantee and can return it for a refund of replacement if it doesn't work.
Hope this helps.
