Sally and Jake-Why it's brill,

This review is from: Sally And Jake - The Complete Series [DVD] (DVD)
Hoorah for Sally and jake. A great example of the early work of Cosgrove Hall productions (Dangermouse, Count Duckula etc,) who were still operating as "Stop frame" at the time. "Sally and Jake" originally featured in 3-4 minute long segments broadcast as part of early episodes of "Rainbow", but went on to star in their own stand alone series. The episodes were narrated by Mike Savage who childrens t.v hardcores (like myself) will recognise as the big bloke with the moustache from Clive Doig's 80's cbbc programmes "Eureka" and "The album". The music was composed by Keith Hopwood and Malcolm Rowe who would go on to do stirling work on Cosgrove Halls' "Wind in the willows" productions. Compared to Brian and Marks later shows and by todays standards in general, Sally and Jake will undoubtedly seem primitive, but as with pretty much all Cosgrove Hall stuff, the thought and effort involved and the charm of the stories shines through to produce something quite delightful. Definitely one for Cosgrove Hall and "Rainbow" collectors as well as general 70's Childrens t.v fans.
