This review is from: TP-LINK TL-WPA281 V3 AV200 Powerline 300M Wi-Fi Extender/Wi-Fi Booster/Hotspot with Two Ethernet Ports (Easy Configuration, Wi-Fi Clone for Smartphone/Tablets/Laptop) (Accessory)
I used this Extender to boost the wifi signal in the lounge where the TV is located. It works really well, but took a bit of head scratching to get it set up and working. Hope my experience is helpful if you are struggling with getting it working.
I already had a pair of older TP-Link TL-PA211 powerline adaptors to feed an Internet cable connection to my Sky TV box. My plan was to keep the TL-PA211 adaptor at the router end and link it to the TL-WPA281 at the TV end. Getting the two adaptors paired was easy once I had been alerted by another Amazon review that the pair button must not be held too long. The TL-PA211 needs to held about 5 seconds then released and the TL-WPA281 just a second or so.
Once I had successfully paired the two adaptors (checked by using a laptop (with wifi switched off) via a cable connection) I used the powerline scan utility to setup the wifi on the new adaptor. The small CD would not work on my laptop as the slot for the DVD/CD drive will not accept the small disk supplied with the product, so I had to download the "powerline_scan" utility off the TP-Link website ([...]).
Using this utility (default login is admin / admin) I changed the SSID to that of my existing router and selected the WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK option for the security with the router's wifi password. After rebooting the adaptor, to my surprised, it worked and I now have a very strong wifi signal throughout the whole house.
