Gabriel Dupont never got the fame he deserved. He tried his luck as a composer of operas, in which he didn't succed. However: he composed some very beautiful songs, just enough to fill one cd (Timpani, 2005) and some striking pianomusic. The greater part of it is recorded here, two great cycles: "Les heures dolentes" and "La maison dans les dunes", of which the first is my favorite since it was first recorded in the 1980's by Daniel Blumental. That recording is deleted many years ago. Reynier's version lacks some of the poetry that Blumental recorded. But Dupont's music remains a stunning experience and Reynier gives it full credit. As Dupont's music deserves to be better known, every recording is worth to gain a wide audience. Reynier deserves it to perform in many concert halls at least parts of these great cycles. He is a worthy advocate for Dupont.
