My wife and I were enthralled when we watched the original Michael Mosley programme about this diet, and we decided to give it a try, not to lose weight, but for the health benefits it undoubtedly brings. Yes we are hungry on starve days, but it's only ever one day at a time (we do Mondays and Thursdays!) and breakfast the following morning seems even more delicious. And despite not being bothered about losing weight, we both have. With no effort. I am in my 50s, and only take moderate exercise, but I lost a stone in a month, and it is staying off. My BMI is now "under the curve". On non-starve days I eat normally, have the odd take away, occasionally pig out on chocolate, and drink beer and wine, all the usual fun stuff, and yet the weight stays off. It's marvelous.

If you are interested in the health benefits, give it a go. It is very easy really, and you feel terribly smug at the mild suffering, because you know you can eat tomorrow!

I wish he'd made this programme 15 years ago.

If she is in a similar age group to you; she will be beset with challenges like the menopause and hormones going more out of sync. Also it's not as easy for women to lose weight as for men.
Being in this category myself and about to start the diet; I am truly interested in your response.

We both eat reasonably sensibly anyway, and she even more so than I, but she has lost weight too - about 8kg I think (she was pretty slim to start with). But my advice, which I am not qualified to give, would be just try it. As I said, we got interested purely for the health benefits (lower cholesterol etc.), the weight loss was an unexpected bonus. Even if you don't lose weight (and frankly, unless you go berserk on your non-fasting days, I don't see how this can happen), you will still be better off for it. And it is so easy! It's a starve day today, and it's midnight and my stomach is rumbling - but breakfast will be delicious! Good luck.
