This is Teresa's first "real" solo album. It is so in the sense that she actually wrote all the melodies and lyrics, together with the group of musicians she discovered through the last couple of projects, after her departure from Madredeus in 2007.
Comprising 15 songs, "O Mistério" ("The Mistery") revolves around universal themes such as love, time and life. As Teresa explains, "O Mistério" is about us, as human beings, accept the constant mistery in our lives, since we will never fully understand our existence in the universe and our relation with it.
"O Mistério" captures a unique atmoshpere. It's nostalgic, mystical, evocative. Almost soundtrack music. Highlights from it includes "O Mistério", "A Estrada", "A Espera" and the ode to the «Beautiful, magical, radiant» "Lisboa". While it is a totally new sound, long time fans from Madredeus will still find something familiar here.
The sound quality is also a highlight. The always present accordion, the "punchy" percursion and Teresa's indescribable voice, all clear and warm. Great work by António Pinheiro da Silva. My only complaint (not directly related to Teresa's music) is the lack of a vinyl version, easily forgotten by the flawless sound from the CD. Yet, it is something to consider in future projects, now that the vinyl records are growing in sales and getting new supporters, myself being one.
